Two Tired Docs

Dr. Valerie Lawrence

Born and raised in Chicago Illinois, Dr. Val has always had a passion for medicine from as far back as she can remember. At the age of 7 when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up she replied “A marine biologist, whale and dolphin veterinarian and a downhill ski instructor!” She narrowed it down to people medicine in high school and then pediatrics during medical school. Simply put, she doesn’t like sick kids-she will do everything in her power to make her patients feel better. From practicing evidence based medicine to playing card games with a patient in their hospital room. Dr. Val has a 10 month old son that gives her a run for her money. She enjoys practicing medicine in both Illinois and Hawaii.

Two Tired Docs

Dr. Philip Magcalas

Born and raised in Michigan, the midwest’s “mitten,” Dr. Philip had no idea he was interested in becoming a doctor until he was pretty much done with college. At the age of 7, when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he got nervous and sweaty. Fast forward to now, Dr. Philip has been enjoying taking care of children (and their parents) in upstate New York for the better part of a decade. Becoming a parent has opened his eyes to how someone who can’t even walk yet can keep you on your toes. Parenthood reminds him to stop, take a breath, and take a moment to just enjoy giggling at the phrase, “pooh-pooh the Whos.”
